Lake of the Woods musky trip with Cortland Pro, Andrew Ragas

After last year's somewhat unproductive fishing trip to Lake of the Woods, there was some skepticism on how this years trip would go. As Andrew Ragas describes, "Musky fishing is 10 percent catching and 90 percent mental." The pictures we received over the course of his stay may tell you otherwise!

In seven and a half days of fishing, Andrew and his fishing partner Brian Malack, boated six musky in the 46 to 50 in range. After a mid-week cold front had blown through during their stay, fishing conditions became harder and the musky were unwilling to eat. Going over previously productive areas and fishing upwards of 30-40 spots a day eventually turned the fishing around to end on a positive note.

Foreseeing the combination of long days and the necessity for epic amounts of casting,  Andrew and Brian spooled up reels with a range of Spectron and Masterbraid from 65 to 100 LB test. Sometimes taking up to a full day to connect with large adult musky, the smooth casting Spectron and Masterbraid can help make that full day on the water more enjoyable.
